Feltri Armchair by Gaetano Pesce, 1987
Designed in 1987 by the visionary Gaetano Pesce for Cassina , the Feltri armchair is much more than a piece of furniture: it's a radical statement about what a chair can be. Experimental, expressive, and deeply humanistic, it embodies the free spirit of late 20th-century Italian design.
Its structure is made of rigid felt molded with resin, which gives it structural solidity without sacrificing formal flexibility. This body envelops the user like a large protective layer, while the soft, generously woven textile padding is held in place by visible cords that make the assembly both aesthetic and functional.
The Feltri challenges conventions, blurring the boundaries between art and design, between object and experience. Gaetano Pesce doesn't design seats: he designs attitudes . This armchair invites us to rethink comfort from a playful, inclusive, and sensorial perspective.
